We’re excited to announce Nexus, the interface for the modular world, in collaboration with Neutron and Mitosis.

What’s Nexus?

Nexus is the first app to leverage Hyperlane and Cosmos IBC to unlock interoperability and message passing between Celestia, Cosmos, EVM and more. With Nexus you’ll be able to move tokens between any Hyperlane or IBC integrated chain, all from one interface. And with Hyperlane’s Permissionless Interoperability, any chain with any VM can join the Nexus bridge network to access liquidity and interchain composability.

The first feature enables the fast and secure bootstrapping of assets to rollups built with Celestia from the wider crypto ecosystem.

Why Nexus?

With both Cosmos IBC and Hyperlane’s Permissionless Interoperability integrated, Nexus empowers the following:

  • Celestia rollups can connect to any ecosystem through Hyperlane, providing a complement to IBC by enabling communication with non-IBC-enabled chains. Hyperlane currently is implemented for EVM, Sealevel (Solana), CosmWasm, and is being implemented for others such as Move, Fuel VM, and more!
  • TIA tokens can be moved to and from Celestia, enabling rollups to bootstrap quickly by integrating TIA as a gas token.
  • Cross-ecosystem applications, such as aggregators and vaults, can tap into applications and liquidity on both Cosmos chains and Celestia Rollups.
  • Cosmos assets such as ATOM and Noble USDC can reach new markets.

How Does it Work?

Celestia is optimized to massively scale data availability and does not offer a general-purpose programmable execution environment. This means users can verify data availability on basically any device, but leaves a wide range of options for rollups to interoperate with TIA.

Neutron, the cross-chain smart-contracting platform on the Cosmos Hub, serves as a “modular base” of Nexus. Thanks to IBC, Neutron easily connects Celestia and the existing universe of Cosmos chains. But how do we connect with non-IBC connected chains/rollups?

Where Hyperlane comes in

Hyperlane enables interoperability with Celestia’s rollup ecosystem, much of which may not support IBC. Rollups running any execution environment, whether it’s EVM, the SVM, Move, CosmWasm, can integrate with Celestia and use TIA as a gas token.

By implementing Hyperlane, Celestia rollups can instantly gain access to Hyperlane’s Permissionless Interoperability. Permissionless Interoperability is the freedom to bring a complete set of interoperability features to any blockchain, any appchain, any rollup, anytime. Therefore, rollups will be able to communicate with all existing Hyperlane-connected chains and future Permissionless Deployments, opening them to any ecosystem. With Hyperlane on Neutron, any rollup can get access to TIA for use within rollups as a gas token, in addition to bootstrapping any other assets from Hyperlane-connected chains. All through one Nexus interface.

To verify messages from Neutron to rollups, Nexus uses an Interchain Security Module (ISM) where a subset of Neutron validators attest to the validity of messages. Similarly, messages from rollups back to Neutron are secured by one or more ISMs utilizing a validator committee of that rollup. Hyperlane’s modular design opens the door to easily upgrading to new ISMs like light clients, fraud-proofs with Blobstream, or any form of state proof, effectively making Nexus future proof.

With Nexus, Celestia rollups are connected to both IBC-enabled and Hyperlane-enabled chains right at Celestia’s mainnet launch.

Hello CosmWasm

Hyperlane on Neutron wouldn’t be possible without the work of Mitosis, who built the CosmWasm version of Hyperlane. The integration played a vital role in launching Nexus and represents the first of many anticipated use cases. More to be announced.

The Nexus alpha goes live at Celestia’s launch, so stay tuned.

More about Hyperlane

Hyperlane is the first Permissionless Interoperability layer, enabling anyone to bring the Hyperlane interoperability stack to any blockchain, out-of-the-box. With Hyperlane, developers can build Interchain Applications, apps that abstract away the complexity of interchain interactions and serve users on any connected chain. Additionally, Hyperlane’s modular security stack gives developers the power to customize their interchain security. Hyperlane development is open-source and led by core developers at Abacus Works.

More about Neutron

Neutron is the most secure cross-chain smart-contracting platform. It combines the security of a top 10 blockchain by staked capitalization with bleeding-edge cross-chain infrastructure to enable DeFi applications to securely scale across a growing network of 51+ interconnected blockchains.

More about Mitosis

Mitosis is a decentralized protocol that proposes a new, capital-efficient paradigm in cross-chain interoperability fit for the modular blockchain ecosystem. Mitosis maximizes composability of locked assets in interoperability protocols between chains and roll-ups in the modular blockchain ecosystem. Mitosis leverages strategic and technical collaboration with Hyperlane, the leading cross-chain interoperability solution for the modular future.
