We’re thrilled to announce that Hyperlane has completed an $18.5 million Seed financing round from a wonderful crew of investors and operators. The round was led by Variant, with participation from Galaxy Ventures, Coinfund, Asymmetric, Hypersphere, Circle, and several others. More on them later.

The funding will be used to accelerate the development of Hyperlane and grow the ecosystem around the emerging Interchain Highway.

The Vision Behind Hyperlane

Hyperlane is the interchain messaging API that allows you to easily and securely communicate between blockchains. Hyperlane was founded with the belief that an expanding universe of blockchains is inevitable, and the mission is to build the interchain network to connect them.

Connecting Blockchains Seamlessly

At Hyperlane, we often talk about the Interchain Highway—but what does that really mean? If you’ve been using crypto protocols and applications for the past couple of years, you’ve probably attempted to cross between two blockchains. If you have, you likely understand why Hyperlane exists.

Blockchains cannot natively communicate with each other. In a way, you can think of them as distant stars or planets. While there are ways to travel between them, that journey is often long and perilous. Hyperlane creates a network between blockchains, allowing developers and their users to safely and easily traverse between them.

This network is what we call the Interchain Highway—our vision for the safest, fastest, and most seamless way to communicate across blockchains.

Meet the Founders & Team

Hyperlane was founded by Asa Oines, Nam Chu Hoai, and Jon Kol:

  • Asa Oines and Nam Chu Hoai were founding engineers at Celo, where Asa built and led the Protocol team, and Nam operated at all levels of the stack.
  • Jon Kol previously co-led Galaxy’s venture business, directing the firm’s investments and spearheading operational initiatives.
  • Alongside them are Trevor Porter and Yorke Rhodes as founding engineers, both previously at Celo.
  • Advisors include Morgan Beller and Zaki Manian, who bring extensive experience to Hyperlane.

How Hyperlane Works

Blockchains function as independent ecosystems, making interoperability a significant challenge. Without a secure and efficient means of communication, developers and users must rely on complex and often risky bridging solutions to move between chains.

The Solution: Hyperlane’s Interchain Messaging API

Hyperlane is designed to eliminate these barriers by providing a simple, secure, and developer-friendly interchain messaging API. This enables seamless cross-chain communication, effectively transforming the way blockchains interact.

Key Features of Hyperlane

Hyperlane prioritizes developer-friendly tools that simplify interchain communication:

Ease of Use

  • Simple On-Chain API – Hyperlane provides a straightforward API for smart contract developers to send messages quickly and securely between blockchains.
  • Interchain Accounts – Bringing IBC’s interchain account construct to the EVM and other blockchains, allowing developers to perform actions on remote blockchains without deploying contracts on those chains.
  • Interchain Queries – Developers can query information from remote blockchains using a simple on-chain API, making interchain data access seamless.

Security & Modularity

Hyperlane is committed to top-tier security, ensuring developers have full control over their interchain applications:

  • Power to the App – Hyperlane’s innovative ‘Modular Security’ model gives developers the ability to tailor their interchain security models to meet their unique needs.
  • Fault Isolation – Applications using Hyperlane can self-select “Interchain Security Modules”, ensuring that any failures are isolated to specific zones—unlike the “all-or-nothing” approach used by other interchain communication platforms.

What’s Next for Hyperlane?

In the coming weeks and months, this blog will be regularly updated with posts that dive deeper into Hyperlane’s unique features, as well as updates on our roadmap and long-term vision.

Our goal is to build the ultimate interoperability platform, one that can support an ever-expanding universe of blockchains that is constantly evolving. To achieve this, Hyperlane has been designed with modularity at its core, ensuring adaptability for an unpredictable future.

Why Modularity Matters

Hyperlane’s modular design is key to its flexibility:

  • Interchain Security Modules – Developers can customize security models for interchain applications.
  • Portable Mailboxes – These can be deployed to any smart contract platform, allowing any blockchain to be integrated into the Interchain Highway without requiring permission.

With Hyperlane, any developer can tailor their security, and anyone can deploy it to a new blockchain to unlock seamless interoperability.

Join the Hyperlane Mission

We’re looking for passionate builders to join the Hyperlane team and help shape the future of blockchain interoperability. If you’re excited about pushing the boundaries of interchain communication, we’d love to hear from you.
