3Velodrome Finance and Hyperlane are launching “Superlane”, an interoperability layer to make Superchain interoperability a reality sooner. Available in November, Superlane introduces many of the benefits of the Optimism-proposed Superchain, such as shared liquidity, interchain governance, and interchain applications, without the wait.

Importantly, Superlane’s modular design enables a seamless transition to Superchain native interoperability when it comes out. So Superchain participants can benefit from interoperability today AND be ready for the Superchain future.

What is the Superchain?

Superchain: a network of chains that share bridging, decentralized governance, upgrades, a communication layer and more — all built on the OP Stack.”

Optimism recognized the increasing fragmentation created by all the new L2s, and proposed a shared interoperability layer to reunite them: The Superchain. With every OP Stack rollup sharing bridging, governance, upgrades, standards, and liquidity, the Superchain is designed to feel like 1 single chain. A smooth, singular experience for users that preserves the sovereignty of the individual rollups.

Superchain. Today and Tomorrow.

Velodrome Finance is the next-generation AMM that combines the best of Curve, Convex and Uniswap, designed to serve as the liquidity hub for the Superchain. Velodrome has done over $15B in volume, distributed over $50m in rewards, and is the largest DEX on Optimism with $125m+ TVL. And with Superlane, they’re expanding their vision and leading the charge towards the Superchain.

How it started: Velodrome contributors recognized the potential of Hyperlane as a future-proof interoperability solution that could seamlessly transition connected chains to the Superchain. Specifically, Superlane is possible because of Hyperlane’s open framework:

Permissionless Deployments

With Hyperlane, anyone can self-deploy interop on their OP Stack rollup, out-of-the-box. This allows Hyperlane to scale to every OP Stack rollup, faster than traditional interoperability solutions that require the core teams to deploy. It also unlocks interop outside the Superchain.

Modular Security

So how does this “seamless transition” work?

Hyperlane is built with a modular security design, allowing developers to customize and swap out the security models used to verify messages between chains. Think security legos. You can plug and play different pre-built security legos or build your own. This enables future security models, like Superchain native interoperability, to be easily plugged in once ready.

TL;DR Superchain rollups that integrate Superlane come with future proof interoperability.

To support Superlane adoption, Velodrome is fully covering incentives for Hyperlane validators who service partner Superchain rollups.

Immediate Use Cases: Velodrome

At launch, Velodrome will leverage Superlane to expand its reach as the liquidity layer for the Superchain:

  • Interchain XVELO token as a Superchain ERC20
  • Interchain XVELO emissions
  • Interchain gauges and gauge voting

What’s Next

Superlane will be live and available to all Superchain rollups in November. Velodrome will be the first to implement the benefits of Superlane in their application, expanding to become the liquidity layer for the Superchain. More details coming soon!

More about Hyperlane

Hyperlane is the open interoperability framework. It empowers developers to connect anywhere onchain and build applications that can easily and securely communicate between multiple blockchains. Importantly, Hyperlane is fully open-source and always permissionless to build with.
